they should probably show the real recommended, now these specs are the minimum (not that they are so high but still there's a huge difference between minimum and high settings for this game)

I realise my current rig could handle this easily but what processor and graphics card could I confidently drop down to while still being able to run this in max detail perfectly? I'm not exactly tech savvy with graphics cards :)

Well, for processor in order to run on max detail is 1.5GHz if I recall, however I would not drop below a video card with less than 64Mb in Video Memory.

Is there anyway to update this page? Because the RuneScape wiki and website both say that the requirements are a bit higher than this page does, probably due to updates pushed out by Jagex that improved graphics quality.

If the GPU (Graphics Card) on your profile page is accurate, then that would be the main reason for your lag. That card is complete crap for high detail gaming and it probably can't even handle many low-detail games..I would suggest using the built-in Intel HD 2000/3000 graphics that come with your current processor, just so you don't have to spend any extra money on buying a new graphics card.

I know this is late but if you still have the problem here's my answer.
Runescape runs on java. On default Runescape uses the 32bit version of java that is installed. If you have a 64 bit machine (I think you do) then both versions of java are installed (64 bit and 32bit) as somethings only use 32bit. So runescape on default will use the 32bit version even thoe you have the 64bit one installed and this will cause huge lag. There ya go.
