Fleet Defender packshot image
Fleet Defender was a combat flight simulator published by Microprose in 1994. It features the F-14 Tomcat and, as a commercial game, "is one of the most complicated and realistic PC air combat simulators ever created." The game features exclusively the F-14B version of the aircraft, even in scenarios where it constitutes an anachronism, because the developers found that flying the original underpowered F-14A was very unforgiving and "not much fun" for a commercial flight simulator.
One of the most realistic simulators of its time, Fleet Defender modelled detailed carrier operations including air traffic and take-off/landing under various conditions. Under the most realistic settings, the player had full control of not only the pilot, but the radar intercept officer (RIO) in the radar cockpit as well, having to manage the several available realistic radar modes (the game manual had a section dedicated to the AWG-9 radar itself, which was unusual at the time).
Fleet Defender GPU Frames Per Second Chart

Our objective is to build an accurate Fleet Defender frame rate chart that lets PC gamers select from any Nvidia or AMD graphics card series. In this beta feature we provide Fleet Defender FPS data, displayed based on a default screen resolution of 1080p.

Premium members can adjust the charts game graphics settings and select multiple graphics card series for frame rate comparison. For example, if you want to quickly compare frame rates for Fleet Defender between AMD Radeon RX-500 Series versus FPS for Nvidia’s GeForce 20 Series, then you can see those results displayed below.

Fleet Defender User Submitted Frame Per Second Results

Our next development is focused on incorporating our bespoke machine learning code that continues to enhance these Fleet Defender frames per second results as more and more of you (PC gamers) submit your own frame rates. Submitted frame rates will automatically be processed, removing anomalies and building increasingly reliable game FPS from all the good data until the performance graph above is pinpoint accurate. The more benchmarks you submit, the more confident we can be in the FPS prediction data across all games and hardware.
