Elite: Dangerous requires a Radeon R9 280X graphics card with a Core i7-3770K 4-Core 3.5GHz or FX-4350 processor to reach the recommended specs, achieving high graphics setting on 1080p. 8 GB will also be needed to achieve the Elite: Dangerous rec specs and get 60FPS. Elite: Dangerous needs a graphics card thats at least as powerful as a GeForce GTX 260/Radeon HD 4870 paired with Phenom 9850 Quad-Core/Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz CPU to match the min specs. This PC setup will deliver 25-35 Frame Per Second at Low graphics setting on 720p resolution. Minimum RAM requirements are 4 GB system memory. Your graphics card will need to be capable of running DirectX 11.00. We suggest a 10 year old PC to play smoothly.

Can I run this game smoothly at max? I've heard that it can be quite soothing once you get used to it and I definitely need a nice new game to kind of turn my brain off with and just kind of go.

Yes, it will do it at all low with supersampling at .75, it won't look pretty but the gameplay will still exist. I did it for over 100 hours on a Intel HD 3000 with an average of 25 fps. It would dip down to 15 fps rarely when fighting in ringed planets rings, but it would always recover enough to continue playing. It never froze or anything on me either. make sure your resolution in 720p not 768p too, not a big reduction but good for the performance. I got 45 fps else ware.
