Not involved with the poorly received 2007 Shadowrun shooter game, Weisman wanted to work on another Shadowrun project that had a more "authentic tone," but due to restrictions on the license, he could not obtain the backing of other publishers for new Shadowrun projects. The success of crowd funding financing models then motivated him to obtain funding for his project, Shadowrun Returns, through the Kickstarter crowd funding platform. The project was opened to pledges in March 2012 and met its funding goal of USD 400,000 within 28 hours. The funding period ended on 29 April 2012, by which time the project had gathered USD 1,895,772 worth of pledges. Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. And never, EVER cut a deal with a dragon. Shadowrun Returns brings back one of our most original & cherished game settings as a 2D turn-based RPG for tablets & PC.
