I boguht the game not a long time ago, i play with the same video card and i get good n bad fps from time to time... Try lowest settings with dx10 settings, with me on dx9 it lags even more than dx10, u will get an fps from 10 - 60, i mostly get between 27 - 35...

you play Metro LL at very high? so you're able to run this game around that setting too, but note for you that the game is not so optimized, so you'll need to tweak the graphics setting if you had FPS lower than your expectation ;)

at your native resolution you should be able to run it on very high settings with no AA and disabled advanced dx11 option. Should give you smooth framerate, like 35+

I can play this at very high with dx11 and AAA but I get occasional lag.
Is it the cpu? Or the gfx card is at full load (it reaches 75º C but I don't think the gfx fan is at it's max speed)?
Cheers in advanced.

I'd say its the gpu.
I have had a very similar system (g850+7770) and sometimes I experienced some lag as well. Get gpu-z and see if the gpu load(not fan speed) drops right when you experience lag issues

When do these occasional FPS drops happen ? For example, if you're looking at a bright light or when on a surface ? I experience them too; in my opinion, it's neither CPU or GPU, it's the optimization of the game.

it's obvious that fps in tunnels are higher than on surface because of all the details and lightning the surface has. You simply need a better rig or lower the settings to maintain the fps in a playable range

In tunnels also FPS drops, when you look into a bright, blinding, light; when Hunter, for the first time enter the station; there my FPS goes to 5-10.

Hmm, I don't remember me experiencing that (and yes, I've beaten the game countless times)
anyway, on surface you have decreased fps all the time, in tunnels it occurs only as you mentioned. Pretty much every game has moments when your fps drops.

I switched AAA to MSAA 4x and it got a lot better.
Now, I only get lag when I'm looking at fog. The gfx card is at full load (99%).
Cheers for the help, mates (:

i think that at 100% load is normal. if it were to perform at maybe 80 or 70%, means that is had been bottlenecked. metro 2033 is quite a demanding game and at very high setting is possible to have lag. in directx 11 mode, disable advanced depth of field, it can help bring up the fps a lot

you should be upgrading your gpu drivers more frequently. I update mine whenever there is a new driver, which often is 1-2 months

My GPU is only 1% lower on the minimun requirements and my CPU and ram is above the Reccomended requirements, i never play on a "little lowered resolution" no matter how strong my GPU Would be whatsover, i never let myself surpass the amazing res for me "1280x720", its just works so amazing with me, thanks for the help, but i think i can manage meduim on my preferred res with all the fancy settings off, if not i'll follow you kind sir :]

at your native res?
well, I doubt it. If you disable advanced dx11 features then you might get playable fps. I've owned a 7770 and at 1080p I preferred high not very high(max) settings. And since your res is even bigger than 1080p, I'd guess you're better off with high settings. =)

At your native res, you will not get playable FPS on max; so I suggest at least medium with DX11 or high settings with DX9 keeping AA off.

just disable the advanced depth of field, keep tesellation enable unless there is some lag. high setting with dx 11 and you should get about 45 fps. i am getting 45fps with advanced depth of field disable, tessellation enabled, high setting, AAA,16AF

I get 5-10 FPS on max mate (on main menu). Hence, you might get 15-20 only; I suggest medium for playable FPS.
