In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6850 MSI OC 8cm PWM Fan Edition are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 465.
The HD 6850 has a 193 MHz higher core clock speed and 4 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GTX 465. This results in the HD 6850 providing 11.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The HD 6850 has a 193 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 465 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the HD 6850 providing 6.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The HD 6850 was released less than a year after the GeForce GTX 465, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.
The Radeon HD 6850 MSI OC 8cm PWM Fan Edition and the GeForce GTX 465 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The HD 6850 has 25.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 465, which means that the memory performance of the HD 6850 is slightly better than the GeForce GTX 465.
The Radeon HD 6850 MSI OC 8cm PWM Fan Edition has 960 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 465 has 352. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6850 is 384 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 465 is 427. The GeForce GTX 465 having 43 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the HD 6850 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The GeForce GTX 465 requires 200 Watts to run but there is no entry for the HD 6850. We would recommend a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the GeForce GTX 465, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the HD 6850.

Mini Review | Radeon HD 6850 MSI OC 8cm PWM Fan Edition is a special edition of the Radeon HD 6850. See the page of the standard edition for more information about it. The new features include an increase in the core-clock that went from 775MHz to 800MHz a 8cm PWM Fan is also featured to keep the temperatures low. The performance increase is about 1.5% according to benchmarks and so and so even the most demanding games are playable at high settings but not with extreme resolutions and extreme technologies due to the limited memory size. | GeForce GTX 465 is a high-end GPU based on the 40nm Fermi architecture. It's based on the Fermi GF100 Core (optimized GF104 Core) and offers 352 Shader Processing Units, 42 TMUs and 32 ROPs, on 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 607MHz and the memory clock operates at 802MHz. Despite feature more Shader Processing Units than GeForce GTX 460, it's lower clocked. Benchmarks indicate that its performance is around 3% better than the standard version and therefore on level with GeForce GTX 460 v2. Most modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution. However, some will require reduced settings to be played optimally. |
