In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 PNY 1GB OC Edition are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 v2.

The GTX 460 has a 13 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the GTX 460. This results in the GTX 460 providing 0.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 460 has a 13 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 460 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 460 providing 0.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 460 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 460, and so the GTX 460 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 460.

The GeForce GTX 460 PNY 1GB OC Edition and the GeForce GTX 460 v2 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GTX 460 has 9.9 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 460, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 460 is marginally better than the GTX 460.

Both the GeForce GTX 460 PNY 1GB OC Edition and the GeForce GTX 460 v2 have 336 Shader Processing Units. Having the same number of SPUs and using the same architecture means that the performance they offer can be compared by looking at the memory bandwidth, Texture and Pixel Rates. In this case, the GTX 460 has 0.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate, 0.4 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate, and 9.9 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth, so should have a marginally faster performance than the GTX 460.

The GeForce GTX 460 v2 requires 160 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 460. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the GTX 460 and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the GTX 460. The two GPUs have been recommended a PSU with the same amount of wattage. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 460 PNY 1GB OC Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 460.
The biggest features are increases in the core-clock that went from 675MHz to 765MHz and from 900MHz to 925MHz, respectively.
According to most benchmarks, the performance boost is around 8% when compared to the standard GeForce GTX 460.
GeForce GTX 460 v2 is a high-end GPU based on the 40nm Fermi architecture.
It's based on the Fermi GF114 Core (optimized GF104 Core) and offers 336 Shader Processing Units, 56 TMUs and 32 ROPs, on 192-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 778MHz and the memory clock operates at 1002MHz.
Compared to the reference GeForce GTX 460, it offers less memory bandwidth but comes higher clocked and it's still expected to perform sightly better. Benchmarks indicate that its performance is around 3% better than the standard version.
Most modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution. However, some will require reduced settings to be played optimally.
