In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 620 Galaxy 2GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire 1GB DDR3 Edition.

The GT 620 has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 5450. This results in the GT 620 providing 6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GT 620 has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 5450 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GT 620 providing 0.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 5450 was released less than a year after the GT 620, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GT 620 has 1024 MB more video memory than the HD 5450, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the HD 5450 has superior memory performance.

The HD 5450 has 2.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GT 620, which means that the memory performance of the HD 5450 is marginally better than the GT 620.

The GeForce GT 620 Galaxy 2GB Edition has 96 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire 1GB DDR3 Edition has 80. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 620 is 134 and the actual shader performance of the HD 5450 is 52. The GT 620 having 82 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 620 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 5450.

The GeForce GT 620 Galaxy 2GB Edition requires 49 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire 1GB DDR3 Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GT 620 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 5450. The HD 5450 has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the GT 620. The difference is significant enough that the HD 5450 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GT 620.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 620 Galaxy 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Entry-Level GeForce GT 620, created by Galaxy.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock runs at 500MHz and the Frame Buffer was raised to 2GB. This is a gimmick and in no way benefits the GPU.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System remains the same.

Performance
Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 620 Galaxy 2GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 620.
Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire 1GB DDR3 Edition is a special edition of the entry-level Radeon HD 5450 that features a slightly lower operating memory clock (667MHz, instead of 800MHz) which reduces the effective memory bandwidth between the GPU and the frame buffer. However, this does not necessarily reduce its overall performance under normal circumstances since its biggest weakness is the processing power. However, paired with a 64-bit bus, the overall performance might be bottleneck in most of today's modern games.
