In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2.

The HD 8350 has a 83 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the 8400 GS. This results in the HD 8350 providing 0.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 8350 has a 83 MHz higher core clock speed than the 8400 GS, but the 8400 GS has 4 more Render Output Units than the HD 8350. As a result, the 8400 GS exhibits a 1.9 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 8350. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 8350 was released over three years more recently than the 8400 GS, and so the HD 8350 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the 8400 GS when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2 and the Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The HD 8350 has 6.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the 8400 GS, which means that the memory performance of the HD 8350 is marginally better than the 8400 GS.

The GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2 has 8 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) has 80. However, the actual shader performance of the 8400 GS is 10 and the actual shader performance of the HD 8350 is 26. The HD 8350 having 16 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 8350 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the 8400 GS.

The HD 8350 transistor size technology is 25 nm (nanometers) smaller than the 8400 GS. This means that the HD 8350 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the 8400 GS. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD 8350 should consume less power than the 8400 GS.

The GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2 requires 25 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) requires 25 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 250 Watts for the HD 8350, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the 8400 GS. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

Mini ReviewGeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2 is the second revision of the entry-level GeForce 8400 GS.
Based on the G98 Core (against the G86 of the first revision), it offers only 8 Shader Processing Units instead of 16 but its central unit is higher-clocked. It also features a 512MB frame buffer against the 256MB of the first revision which will prove useful on most 3D applications.
Its performance is on level with the first revision due to the lesser SPU count but the power consumption is much lower of only 25 Watts.
Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) is an OEM Only, entry-level Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Terascale Architecture.

Terascale was AMD's first Unified Shader Architecture. In addition to being manufactured with a 40nm Technology, against the 55nm of previous Graphics Cards, it supports DirectX 10 and the Shaders now called Shader Processing Units have been redesigned and do all the Graphical work of Pixel and Vertex Shaders.

It equips a GPU codenamed Cedar PRO which has 1 Compute Units activated and thus offers 80 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Operates at 650MHz.

The GPU accesses a 512MB frame buffer of GDDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 800MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, Eyefinity, Stream Acceleration, PowerPlay and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 18W, it requires at least a 250W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Radeon HD 8350 (OEM) is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon HD 6350 and performs exactly like it.
Gaming benchmarks indicate its performance is extremely limited and even the older GeForce GT 220 is still faster.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 2GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8350 (OEM).
