In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Tesla K40c are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7850 XFX Ultra OC Edition.
The HD 7850 has a 269 MHz higher core clock speed than the Tesla K40c, but the Tesla K40c has 176 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 7850. As a result, the Tesla K40c exhibits a 107 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 7850. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The HD 7850 has a 269 MHz higher core clock speed than the Tesla K40c, but the Tesla K40c has 16 more Render Output Units than the HD 7850. As a result, the Tesla K40c exhibits a 2.7 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 7850. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The Tesla K40c was released over a year more recently than the HD 7850, and so the Tesla K40c is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 7850.
The Tesla K40c has 11264 MB more video memory than the HD 7850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Tesla K40c also has superior memory performance overall.
The Tesla K40c has 134.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 7850, which means that the memory performance of the Tesla K40c is massively better than the HD 7850.
The Tesla K40c has 2888 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7850 XFX Ultra OC Edition has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the Tesla K40c is 2039 and the actual shader performance of the HD 7850 is 849. The Tesla K40c having 1190 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Tesla K40c delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 7850.
The Tesla K40c requires 245 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 7850 XFX Ultra OC Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 7850, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the Tesla K40c.

Mini Review | Tesla K40c is a high-end professional Graphics Card created for server purposes only. It's designed to solve the most complex high performance computing problems. It comes with a Kepler GK110 with a full count of 2880 Shader Processing Units but the drivers aren't certified for games. Therefore, even if Tesla K40 is powerful enough for even the most demanding games, it might not be compatible. Its gaming performance is below comparable to GeForce GTX Titan. | Radeon HD 7850 XFX Ultra OC Edition is a special edition of the powerful Radeon HD 7850. See the standard version for more information about it. The differences include an increase on the core-clock that went from 860MHz to 975MHz. Benchmarks indicate a 7% boost when compared to the standard edition. |
