In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 Galaxy HOF 2GB Edition are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7970 MSI OC Edition.

The GTX 770 has a 192 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the HD 7970. This results in the GTX 770 providing 24.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 770 has a 192 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 7970 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 770 providing 6.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 770 was released over a year more recently than the HD 7970, and so the GTX 770 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 7970.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The HD 7970 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 770, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 7970 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 7970 has 39.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 770, which means that the memory performance of the HD 7970 is noticeably better than the GTX 770.

The GeForce GTX 770 Galaxy HOF 2GB Edition has 1536 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7970 MSI OC Edition has 2048. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 770 is 1926 and the actual shader performance of the HD 7970 is 1758. The GTX 770 having 168 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the HD 7970 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce GTX 770 Galaxy HOF 2GB Edition requires 230 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 7970 MSI OC Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 770 and a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the HD 7970. The GTX 770 has been recommended a PSU with 50 Watts more than the HD 7970. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 770 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 7970.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 770 Galaxy HOF 2GB Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 770.
This edition comes with a custom triple fan cooling solution and has been overclocked out of the box from 1202MHz to 1085MHz while its boost clock is now of 1254MHz. The memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a 9% performance boost when compared to the reference card and so this edition performs considerably better than a GeForce GTX 590.
Radeon HD 7970 MSI OC Edition is a special Edition of the Radeon HD 7970. See the page of the standard edition for more information.
It features overclocking out of the box in the core-clock which went from 925MHz to 1010MHz.
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance boost when compared to the standard Radeon HD 7970.
Therefore, all games, including very demanding ones, should be fully playable at max settings and with very attractive resolutions.
