In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon R9 290X Crossfire are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Galaxy Edition.

The GTX 680 has a 110 MHz higher core clock speed than the R9 290X, but the R9 290X has 224 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 680. Mini ReviewRadeon R9 290X Crossfire is a solution of two Radeon R9 290X put together using AMD'S Crossfire technology.

Crossfire relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, is up to 30% better than a single Radeon R9 290X performing by itself but at times (depending whether or not the 3D game supports crossfire or in the graphics driver) it may perform worse than a single Radeon R9 290X. Expect this combination to draw up to 500 Watt though the average power consumption should be slightly lower.
Even the most demanding games will run at the highest settings.

Compared to the standard version, GeForce GTX 680 Galaxy Edition features an increased core-clock that went from 1006MHz to 1110MHz and the turbo boost from 1100MHz to 1176MHz. The amount of memory was also increased from 2GB to 4GB, proving useful if gaming at high resolutions and using many image improving techniques, though we consider this excessive.
Expect a 9% performance boost when compared to the standard card.
