In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 Gigabyte Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7790 DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition.

The HD 7790 has a 295 MHz higher core clock speed but 4 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 570. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the HD 7790 manages to provide 13.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 7790 has a 295 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 570, but the GTX 570 has 24 more Render Output Units than the HD 7790. As a result, the GTX 570 exhibits a 14 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 7790. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 7790 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 570, and so the HD 7790 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 570.

The HD 7790 has 768 MB more video memory than the GTX 570, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GTX 570 has 49.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 7790, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 570 is noticeably better than the HD 7790.

The Radeon HD 7790 DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition has 896 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 570 Gigabyte Edition has 480. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 7790 is 963 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 570 is 749. The HD 7790 having 214 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTX 570 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The HD 7790 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 570. This means that the HD 7790 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 570.

The GeForce GTX 570 Gigabyte Edition requires 219 Watts to run but there is no entry for the HD 7790. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 570, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the HD 7790.

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 7790 DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition is a special edition of the performance Radeon HD 7790.
This edition comes with a cooling solution called DirectCU II, which achieves 20% lower temps and vastly quieter performance than reference with direct-contact copper heatpipes and dual fans, according to Asus. It also comes overclocked out of the box in the core-clock to 1075MHz and on the memory clock to 1600MHz, though the latter might prove useless, as this card might not benefit from extra bandwidth.
The 2GB framer buffer proves useless and Benchmarks indicate a 5% performance boost when compared to the reference card.
GeForce GTX 570 Gigabyte Edition is a special edition of the powerful GeForce GTX 570. See the standard version for more information about it.
The differences include an increase in the core-clock, from 732MHz to 780MHz and a better cooling system.
Compared to the standard version, the performance boost is around 4%.
All games, including demanding one's, will run on the highest settings.
