In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3 are significantly better than the AMD Radeon R3 5350.

The Radeon R3 5350 has a 60 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the 8600 GT. This results in the Radeon R3 5350 providing 5.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon R3 5350 has a 60 MHz higher core clock speed than the 8600 GT and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the Radeon R3 5350 providing 0.5 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon R3 5350 was released over three years more recently than the 8600 GT, and so the Radeon R3 5350 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the 8600 GT when running the latest games.

The 8600 GT has 512 MB video memory, but the Radeon R3 5350 does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Radeon R3 5350 has 128 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3 has 32. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon R3 5350 is 50 and the actual shader performance of the 8600 GT is 43. The Radeon R3 5350 having 7 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon R3 5350 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the 8600 GT.

The Radeon R3 5350 transistor size technology is 52 nm (nanometers) smaller than the 8600 GT. This means that the Radeon R3 5350 is expected to run massively cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the 8600 GT.

The Radeon R3 5350 requires 25 Watts to run and the GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3 requires 46 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Radeon R3 5350 and a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the 8600 GT. The 8600 GT requires 21 Watts more than the Radeon R3 5350 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the 8600 GT to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon R3 5350.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon R3 5350 is an integrated Graphhics Card on the APU Athlon 5350.
It features a GCN 2.0 Core which offers 128 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs and shares the system RAM with the processor. Thus, it can either access a 64-bit or 128-bit memory channel, which will affect considerably its overall performance.
Its performance is very limited and even older modern games have trouble running well.
GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3 is one of the many variants of the fast-middle-class GeForce 8600 GT.
On this version, the GPU is equipped with 512MB of standard GDDR3. The architecture allows the use of 512MB, since the GPU's processing power is strong enough and the memory controller is up for the task of processing 512MB. Therefore, the performance is superior to the 256MB version and any other version of DDR2, including 1GB.
However, and due to its architecture limitations, modern demanding games will require reduced settings, even if they don't require more than 512MB of video ram. Very Demanding games like Metro 2033 are only playable at the lowest settings.
