In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 SLI are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition.

The GTX 460 has a 81 MHz higher core clock speed and 88 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTS 450. This results in the GTX 460 providing 61.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 460 has a 81 MHz higher core clock speed and 48 more Render Output Units than the GTS 450. This results in the GTX 460 providing 33.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTS 450 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 460, and so the GTS 450 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 460.

The GTX 460 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTS 450, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 460 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 460 has 204.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTS 450, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 460 is massively better than the GTS 450.

The GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition has 144 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 460 SLI has 672. However, the actual shader performance of the GTS 450 is 171 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 460 is 907. The GTX 460 having 736 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 460 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTS 450.

The GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition requires 75 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 460 SLI requires 380 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the GTS 450 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 460. The GTX 460 requires 305 Watts more than the GTS 450 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 460 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTS 450.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's fast-middle-class GeForce GTS 450 v4, created by Asus.

Overclock Out of The Box
The Central unit is actually underclocked reducing the power consumption and thus reducing the heat produced. Also, the Graphics Card relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System was replaced by Asus's DirectCU Silent Solution which has flattened copper heat-pipe in contact with the GPU directly for a 0dB cooling experience.

Because of being underclocked, GeForce GTS 450 v4 Asus DirectCU Silent 1GB Edition is actually slower than the reference GeForce GTS 450 v4.
GeForce GTX 460 SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 460 put together using NVIDIA'S SLI technology.
SLI relies a lot on proper driver support and may cause micro stuttering in FPS below 30. This means this combination might even perform worse than a single GTX 460.
The optimal performance it delivers is slightly better than a single GeForce GTX 480.
Therefore, this combination is sufficient for gaming at 1080p and most demanding games can be played at the highest settings.
