In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8770M are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 445M v2.
The Radeon HD 8770M has a 205 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the GT 445M. This results in the Radeon HD 8770M providing 4.9 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The Radeon HD 8770M has a 205 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 445M, but the GT 445M has 8 more Render Output Units than the Radeon HD 8770M. As a result, the GT 445M exhibits a 2.9 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the Radeon HD 8770M. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The Radeon HD 8770M was released over a year more recently than the GT 445M, and so the Radeon HD 8770M is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GT 445M.
The Radeon HD 8770M has 1024 MB more video memory than the GT 445M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Radeon HD 8770M also has superior memory performance overall.
The Radeon HD 8770M has 32 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GT 445M, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 8770M is noticeably better than the GT 445M.
The GeForce GT 445M v2 has 144 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8770M has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 445M is 164 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8770M is 269. The Radeon HD 8770M having 105 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD 8770M delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GT 445M.
The Radeon HD 8770M transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GT 445M. This means that the Radeon HD 8770M is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GT 445M. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the Radeon HD 8770M should consume less power than the GT 445M.
The GeForce GT 445M v2 requires 35 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8770M requires 20 Watts. The GT 445M requires 15 Watts more than the Radeon HD 8770M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GT 445M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon HD 8770M.

Mini Review | Overview GeForce GT 445M v2 is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture. Architecture The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature. Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed GF106-N11E-GE-A1 which has 3 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 144 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 570MHz. Memory The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 625MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops. Performance Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with the desktop GeForce GT 450 v4. System Suggestions We recommend a decent processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 445M v2. | Overview Radeon HD 8770M is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture. Architecture The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology. GPU It equips a GPU codenamed Mars XT which has 6 Compute Units activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 775MHz and goes up to 825MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The memory clock operates at 1125MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 20W, it is suited for 13" or larger laptops. Performance Gaming benchmarks put its performance somewhat above NVIDIA's GeForce GT 645M. System Suggestions We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8770M. |
