In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTX SLI are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 445M v2.

The GT 445M was released over a year more recently than the 9800M GTX, and so the GT 445M is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the 9800M GTX.

The 9800M GTX has 1024 MB more video memory than the GT 445M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the 9800M GTX also has superior memory performance overall.

The 9800M GTX has 62.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GT 445M, which means that the memory performance of the 9800M GTX is much better than the GT 445M.

The GeForce GT 445M v2 has 144 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 9800M GTX SLI has 224. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 445M is 164 and the actual shader performance of the 9800M GTX is 112. The GT 445M having 52 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the 9800M GTX performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GT 445M transistor size technology is 25 nm (nanometers) smaller than the 9800M GTX. This means that the GT 445M is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the 9800M GTX. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GT 445M should consume less power than the 9800M GTX.

The GeForce GT 445M v2 requires 35 Watts to run and the GeForce 9800M GTX SLI requires 150 Watts. The 9800M GTX requires 115 Watts more than the GT 445M to run. The difference is significant enough that the 9800M GTX may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GT 445M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 445M v2 is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF106-N11E-GE-A1 which has 3 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 144 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 570MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 625MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with the desktop GeForce GT 450 v4.

System Suggestions
We recommend a decent processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 445M v2.
GeForce 9800M GTX SLI is a solution of two GeForce 9800M GTX put together using NVIDIA'S SLI technology.
Check the page of GeForce 9800M GTX to know more about its chip.
As usual, SLI relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, up to X% better than a single GeForce 9800M GTX performing by itself but at times (depending whether or not the 3D game supports SLI or in the graphics driver) it performed worse than a single GeForce 9800M GTX.
A few demanding games will run at the highest settings with fluent frame rates (30+) but overall most games will require reduced settings to be played optimally.
