In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 445M v2 are massively better than the Nvidia Geforce 405M.

The Geforce 405M has a 36 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 445M, but the GT 445M has 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the Geforce 405M. As a result, the GT 445M exhibits a 8.9 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the Geforce 405M. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Geforce 405M has a 36 MHz higher core clock speed than the GT 445M, but the GT 445M has 12 more Render Output Units than the Geforce 405M. As a result, the GT 445M exhibits a 6.7 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the Geforce 405M. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Geforce 405M was released over a year more recently than the GT 445M, and so the Geforce 405M is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GT 445M.

The GT 445M has 512 MB more video memory than the Geforce 405M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GT 445M also has superior memory performance overall.

The GT 445M has 27.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Geforce 405M, which means that the memory performance of the GT 445M is slightly better than the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce GT 445M v2 has 144 Shader Processing Units and the Geforce 405M has 16. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 445M is 164 and the actual shader performance of the Geforce 405M is 22. The GT 445M having 142 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 445M delivers a significantly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Geforce 405M.

The GeForce GT 445M v2 requires 35 Watts to run and the Geforce 405M requires 14 Watts. The GT 445M requires 21 Watts more than the Geforce 405M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GT 445M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Geforce 405M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 445M v2 is a Fast-Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GF106-N11E-GE-A1 which has 3 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 144 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 570MHz.

The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 625MHz.

DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops.

Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with the desktop GeForce GT 450 v4.

System Suggestions
We recommend a decent processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 445M v2.
GeForce 405M is the latest addition to the 400M Series released by NVIDIA in 2010-2012.
It's a renamed GeForce 315M, based on the GT218 architecture.
It only supports up to 512MB DDR3/GDDR3 memory type and DirectX 10.1. GeForce 405M is one of the weakest integrated GPUs with dedicated memory currently in the market, it has only 16 Pipelines and so, along with other factors, the performance is very limited.
Therefore, the most demanding games are probably unplayable even at the lowest settings while demanding games should run fluently at low settings. Less demanding games will run fluently from medium to high settings, depending on the amount of video memory required, since GeForce 405M only has up to 512MB.
