In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7450 are significantly better than the Intel HD Graphics Desktop (Sandy Bridge).

The Graphics Desktop has a 225 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 7450, but the Radeon HD 7450 has 7 more Texture Mapping Units than the Graphics Desktop. As a result, the Radeon HD 7450 exhibits a 4.1 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the Graphics Desktop. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Graphics Desktop has a 225 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 7450, but the Radeon HD 7450 has 3 more Render Output Units than the Graphics Desktop. As a result, the Radeon HD 7450 exhibits a 1.6 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the Graphics Desktop. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon HD 7450 was released less than a year after the Graphics Desktop, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The Radeon HD 7450 has 512 MB video memory, but the Graphics Desktop does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Radeon HD 7450 has 160 Shader Processing Units and the HD Graphics Desktop (Sandy Bridge) has 6. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7450 is 50 and the actual shader performance of the Graphics Desktop is 24. The Radeon HD 7450 having 26 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Graphics Desktop performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Graphics Desktop transistor size technology is 18 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 7450. This means that the Graphics Desktop is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 7450. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the Graphics Desktop should consume less power than the Radeon HD 7450.

The Radeon HD 7450 requires 18 Watts to run and the HD Graphics Desktop (Sandy Bridge) requires 65 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Radeon HD 7450. The Graphics Desktop requires 47 Watts more than the Radeon HD 7450 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Graphics Desktop may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Radeon HD 7450.

Radeon HD 7450 is an OEM only, entry-level Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Terascale Architecture.

Architecture
The Second variant of the Terascale 2 Architecture is still manufactured with a 40nm technology and despite allowing more Stream Cores, their design remains more or less the same compared to the first variant.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Caicos PRO which has 2 Compute Units activated and thus offers 160 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Operates at 625MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 512MB frame buffer of GDDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 533MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for HD3D, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, PowerPlay and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 18W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Radeon HD 7450 is a direct re-brand of Radeon HD 6450 v3.
Gaming benchmarks put its performance around of a GeForce GT 420.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 2GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 7450.
Intel HD Graphics Desktop (Sandy Bridge) are integrated graphics in the budget Celeron and Pentium Sandy Bridge Desktop processors.
Their performance depends on the processor they are integrated on, as the latter defines the Base and Boost Clock, as well as on the SYSTEM RAM, which defines the operating memory clock, and whether the GPU accesses a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface.
