In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD Graphics 5600 Mobile are significantly better than the Intel HD i7 3840QM.

The HD i7 3840QM has a 350 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the Graphics 5600. This results in the HD i7 3840QM providing 1.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD i7 3840QM has a 350 MHz higher core clock speed and 1 more Render Output Units than the Graphics 5600. This results in the HD i7 3840QM providing 1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Graphics 5600 was released over three years more recently than the HD i7 3840QM, and so the Graphics 5600 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD i7 3840QM when running the latest games.

The HD i7 3840QM and the HD Graphics 5600 Mobile have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The Graphics 5600 has 17.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD i7 3840QM, which means that the memory performance of the Graphics 5600 is slightly better than the HD i7 3840QM.

The HD i7 3840QM has 16 Shader Processing Units and the HD Graphics 5600 Mobile has 24. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i7 3840QM is 83 and the actual shader performance of the Graphics 5600 is 202. The Graphics 5600 having 119 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Graphics 5600 delivers a slightly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD i7 3840QM.

The Graphics 5600 transistor size technology is 8 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD i7 3840QM. This means that the Graphics 5600 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD i7 3840QM.

The HD i7 3840QM requires 45 Watts to run and the HD Graphics 5600 Mobile requires 37 Watts. The HD i7 3840QM requires 8 Watts more than the Graphics 5600 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD i7 3840QM to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Graphics 5600.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewN/AOverview
Intel HD Graphics 5600 Mobile are Integrated Graphics in some of Intel's Broadwell Processors.

The Broadwell Core includes support for DirectX 11.2, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. Additionally, it also offers better Decoding Performance, when compared to its Predecessors.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GT2 which offers 24 Shader Processing Units, 4 TMUs and 1 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 300MHz and goes up to 1050MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 933MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with a dedicated Radeon HD 7690M.
