In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD i7 3840QM are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M.

The HD i7 3840QM has a 75 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 330M, but the GeForce GT 330M has 12 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD i7 3840QM. As a result, the GeForce GT 330M exhibits a 6.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD i7 3840QM. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD i7 3840QM has a 75 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GT 330M, but the GeForce GT 330M has 6 more Render Output Units than the HD i7 3840QM. As a result, the GeForce GT 330M exhibits a 3.3 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD i7 3840QM. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD i7 3840QM was released over a year more recently than the GeForce GT 330M, and so the HD i7 3840QM is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce GT 330M.

The GeForce GT 330M has 1024 MB video memory, but the HD i7 3840QM does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD i7 3840QM has 16 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GT 330M has 48. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i7 3840QM is 83 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GT 330M is 63. The HD i7 3840QM having 20 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce GT 330M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The HD i7 3840QM transistor size technology is 18 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GT 330M. This means that the HD i7 3840QM is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GT 330M. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD i7 3840QM should consume less power than the GeForce GT 330M.

The HD i7 3840QM requires 45 Watts to run and the GeForce GT 330M requires 23 Watts. The HD i7 3840QM requires 22 Watts more than the GeForce GT 330M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD i7 3840QM to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GeForce GT 330M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewN/AGeForce GT 330M is a middle-class level GFX of the 300M Series released by NVIDIA in 2010. The biggest hindrance it has is the fact that it only supports DirectX up to 10.1 so DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
The performance depends a lot on the memory type used which can either be DDR2 or DDR3. This is the DDR3 version so it's capable of playing demanding games (like Crysis 2) at medium settings. However, very demanding games like Metro 2033 will require very reduced settings to be played smoothly.
