In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Gainward 1GB Edition are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 740 v2 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition.
The GT 740 has a 144 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 650 Ti, but the GTX 650 Ti has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the GT 740. As a result, the GTX 650 Ti exhibits a 25.1 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GT 740. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GT 740 has a 144 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 650 Ti and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GT 740 providing 2.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The GT 740 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 650 Ti, and so the GT 740 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 650 Ti.
The GT 740 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 650 Ti, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the GTX 650 Ti has superior memory performance.
The GTX 650 Ti has 6.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GT 740, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 650 Ti is marginally better than the GT 740.
The GeForce GT 740 v2 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition has 384 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Gainward 1GB Edition has 768. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 740 is 412 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 650 Ti is 713. The GTX 650 Ti having 301 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 650 Ti delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GT 740.
The GeForce GT 740 v2 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition requires 64 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Gainward 1GB Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GT 740.

Mini Review | Overview GeForce GT 740 v2 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition is a Special Edition of NVIDIA's Middle-Class GeForce GT 740 v2, created by Gigabyte. Overclock: Central Unit The Central Unit is now of 1072MHz, instead of 993MHz. Overclock: Memory Clock None. Frame Buffer The Frame Buffer was doubled to 2GB. In some situations, this could be useful. However, and because the GPU itself is not capable of 1080p Gaming, 2GB might be mostly a Gimmick. Cooling Solution “Triangle Cool” fansink integrates a patented triangle-shaped aluminum block into the aluminum extrusion module. The triangle design not only minimizes the turbulence between extruded aluminum fins, but also enhances heat dissipation to improve cooling efficiency for the whole fansink. Performance Benchmarks Indicate a 8% Performance Boost over the Reference GeForce GT 740 v2. | GeForce GTX 650 Ti Gainward 1GB Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class. This edition has no new features and so it performs exactly like the reference GeForce GTX 650 Ti. |
