In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 4850 Gigabyte 512MB Edition are significantly better than the Intel HD Pentium G4520.

The HD 4850 has a 290 MHz higher core clock speed and 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD Pentium G4520. This results in the HD 4850 providing 20 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 4850 has a 290 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the HD Pentium G4520. This results in the HD 4850 providing 7.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD Pentium G4520 was released over three years more recently than the HD 4850, and so the HD Pentium G4520 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 4850 when running the latest games.

The HD 4850 has 512 MB video memory, but the HD Pentium G4520 does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD Pentium G4520 has 24 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 4850 Gigabyte 512MB Edition has 800. However, the actual shader performance of the HD Pentium G4520 is 202 and the actual shader performance of the HD 4850 is 358. The HD 4850 having 156 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 4850 delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD Pentium G4520.

The HD Pentium G4520 transistor size technology is 41 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 4850. This means that the HD Pentium G4520 is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 4850.

The HD Pentium G4520 requires 47 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 4850 Gigabyte 512MB Edition requires 110 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the HD Pentium G4520 and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 4850. The HD 4850 requires 63 Watts more than the HD Pentium G4520 to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD 4850 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD Pentium G4520.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel HD Pentium G4520 is the specific version of Intel HD Graphics 530 Desktop that is integrated in the Pentium G4520 Processor.

The Skylake Core includes support for DirectX 12.1, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.4. Additionally, it also supports DDR4 Memory.

It equips a GPU Codenamed GT2 which offers 24 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 350MHz and goes up to 1050MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1.7GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 1067MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with a dedicated GeForce 920M.

System Suggestions
Intel HD Pentium G4520 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We recommend a Decent Processor and 4GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Radeon HD 4850 Gigabyte 512MB Edition is a special edition of the high-end Radeon HD 4850.
The new features include an increase in the central unit that went from 625MHz to 640MHz, while the operating memory clock was reduced to 940MHz. A new cooling system is also available.
The performance ends up being exactly like the reference card.
