In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon R9 270 MSI Gaming 2GB Edition are massively better than the Intel HD i5 6600.

The R9 270 has a 550 MHz higher core clock speed and 64 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD i5 6600. This results in the R9 270 providing 66.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The R9 270 has a 550 MHz higher core clock speed and 24 more Render Output Units than the HD i5 6600. This results in the R9 270 providing 26 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD i5 6600 was released over a year more recently than the R9 270, and so the HD i5 6600 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the R9 270.

The R9 270 has 2048 MB video memory, but the HD i5 6600 does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The HD i5 6600 has 24 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon R9 270 MSI Gaming 2GB Edition has 1280. However, the actual shader performance of the HD i5 6600 is 221 and the actual shader performance of the R9 270 is 1061. The R9 270 having 840 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the R9 270 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD i5 6600.

The HD i5 6600 transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the R9 270. This means that the HD i5 6600 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the R9 270.

The HD i5 6600 requires 65 Watts to run and the Radeon R9 270 MSI Gaming 2GB Edition requires 175 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the HD i5 6600 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the R9 270. The R9 270 requires 110 Watts more than the HD i5 6600 to run. The difference is significant enough that the R9 270 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD i5 6600.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel HD i5 6600 is the specific version of Intel HD Graphics 530 Desktop that is integrated in the Core i5-6600 Processor.

Architecture
The Skylake Core includes support for DirectX 12.1, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.4. Additionally, it also supports DDR4 Memory.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GT2-R0 which offers 24 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Runs at 350MHz and goes up to 1150MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies from laptop to laptop. Typically, the GPU reserves 1.7GB. Depending on whether or not the system's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface. The operating memory clock also depends on the at which speed the System's RAM is running and is limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 1067MHz.
It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance almost on level with a dedicated GeForce 920M.

System Suggestions
Intel HD i5 6600 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We recommend a Decent Processor and 4GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Radeon R9 270 MSI Gaming 2GB Edition is a special edition of the fast-middle-class Radeon R9 270.
This edition comes with a custom cooling system called "TwinFrozr", which reduces the card's temperature under load, significantly and with various modes whereas the gaming mode allows a central unit speed of 975MHz.
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance boost over the standard edition.
