In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce 940MX 2GB.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB has a 494 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 760M, but the GeForce GTX 760M has 40 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. As a result, the GeForce GTX 760M exhibits a 13.3 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB has a 494 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 760M, but the GeForce GTX 760M has 8 more Render Output Units than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. As a result, the GeForce GTX 760M exhibits a 1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB was released over a year more recently than the GeForce GTX 760M, and so the GeForce 940MX 2GB is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce GTX 760M.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB and the GeForce GTX 760M have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The GeForce GTX 760M has 48.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 940MX 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 760M is noticeably better than the GeForce 940MX 2GB.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB has 384 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 760M has 768. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 940MX 2GB is 644 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 760M is 505. The GeForce 940MX 2GB having 139 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce GTX 760M performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The GeForce 940MX 2GB requires 25 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 760M requires 55 Watts. The GeForce GTX 760M requires 30 Watts more than the GeForce 940MX 2GB to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce GTX 760M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GeForce 940MX 2GB.

Mini Review | Overview GeForce 940MX 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the Maxwell Architecture. Architecture GeForce 940MX 2GB Features a GPU Codenamed GM108-N16S-GTR which is a First Gen Maxwell GPU and is identical to the GM108-N16S-GT-S used on GeForce 940M but with the addition of GDDR5 Support. GM108-N16S-GTR has 3 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. GPU The Central Unit is Clocked at 1122Hz and goes up to 1242MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory: Speed The GPU is equipped with DDR3 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 64-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1001MHz. Memory: Frame Buffer The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 2GB. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 25W, it is suited for small and medium sized laptops. Performance Equipped with DDR3, GeForce GT 940MX is only slightly faster than GeForce GT 940M. System Suggestions GeForce 940MX 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We Recommend a Middle-Class Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. | Overview GeForce GTX 760M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Kepler Architecture. Architecture The Kepler Architecture was NVIDIA's big step to power efficiency. Each Stream Multiprocessor (SMX) now hosts 192 Shader Processing Units - against the 48 of older Fermi Architecture, and has been redesigned being now clocked at the same speed of the Central Unit. This means they are more energy efficient and will consequently lead to cooler operating temperatures. However, it also means they are weaker. It can be said that one Fermi SMX is as fast as 2 Kepler SMXs. Additionally, and not available in all GPUs, Kepler also introduced the Boost Clock Feature. The Boost Clock is an even higher Clock Speed activated when in gaming mode and becomes the effective speed of the GPU. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed GK106-N14E-GL-A1 which has 4 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 768 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is initially clocked at 628MHz and goes up to 657MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 1002MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for SLI, Kepler Boost, Optimus, CUDA, OpenCL, DirectCompute, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 55W, it is suited for average sized laptops. Performance Despite being similar to GeForce GTX 650 Ti, GeForce GTX 760M is closer to the weaker GeForce GTX 650, due to being heavily underclocked. Gaming benchmarks indicate its performance is on average with the older GeForce GTX 670M. System Suggestions We recommend a decent processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GTX 760M. |
