In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 are significantly better than the Nvidia Tesla M2090.

The GeForce GTX 780 has a 213 MHz higher core clock speed and 136 more Texture Mapping Units than the Tesla M2090. This results in the GeForce GTX 780 providing 129.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce GTX 780 has a 213 MHz higher core clock speed than the Tesla M2090 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GeForce GTX 780 providing 10.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GTX 780 was released over a year more recently than the Tesla M2090, and so the GeForce GTX 780 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Tesla M2090.

The Tesla M2090 has 3072 MB more video memory than the GeForce GTX 780, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the GeForce GTX 780 has superior memory performance.

The GeForce GTX 780 has 110.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Tesla M2090, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 780 is massively better than the Tesla M2090.

The Tesla M2090 has 512 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 780 has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the Tesla M2090 is 666 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 780 is 2078. The GeForce GTX 780 having 1412 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce GTX 780 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Tesla M2090.

The GeForce GTX 780 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Tesla M2090. This means that the GeForce GTX 780 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Tesla M2090.

The Tesla M2090 requires 250 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 780 requires 250 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the Tesla M2090 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GeForce GTX 780. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Tesla M2090 is a Professional Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Tesla M2090 Features a GPU Codenamed GF110 which is a Second Gen Fermi GPU and is Identical to the one used on the Gaming GeForce GTX 580. It offers DirectX Feature Level of 11.0 and has 16 Stream Multiprocessors activated offering a total of 512 Shader Processing Units, 56 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

The Central Unit runs at 650MHz.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 384-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 925MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 6GB.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 250W, it requires at least a 600W PSU and one available 6-pin with one available 8-pin connectors.

Tesla M2090 has a Core Configuration Similar to GeForce GTX 580 but is heavily underclocked.
As a Result and also because of the lack of Drivers that are Gaming Certified, Tesla M2090's Performance is roughly on par with the weaker GeForce GTX 570.

System Suggestions
Tesla M2090 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
GeForce GTX 780 is a high-end graphics-card based on the 28nm, Kepler architecture.
It's based on the Kepler GK110 Core (same used on Titan) but with 12 SMX activated and therefore offers 2304 Shader Processing Units, 192 TMUs and 48 ROPs on a 384-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. While the central unit runs at 863MHz and goes up to 902MHz in Turbo, the memory clock operates at 1502MHz. It consumes up to 250W.
Benchmarks indicate that its performance is up to 30% better than previous GeForce GTX 680 and thus allows even the most demanding games to be playable at the highest settings, at 1080p. With proper overclocking and cooling, it can surpass GeForce GTX Titan.
