In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB.

The GeForce RTX 2070 has a 153 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the RX 580. This results in the GeForce RTX 2070 providing 22 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce RTX 2070 was released over a year more recently than the RX 580, and so the GeForce RTX 2070 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the RX 580.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2070 and the Radeon RX 580 8GB have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

First off we should point out that this is not the new AMD Vega graphics card line. The new AMD Radeon RX 500 series are an uprated version of the RX 400 series that they are replacing. This RX 580 8GB graphics card is one of the two more powerful models from the new AMD Radeon RX 500 Series.

This RX 580 is the 8GB version and there is also the lower VRAM version, RX580 4GB available.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 20 XTX, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.
