In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX 540X 4GB Mobile are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M.
The RX 540X has a 274 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 765M, but the GeForce GTX 765M has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 540X. As a result, the GeForce GTX 765M exhibits a 18.4 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the RX 540X. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The RX 540X has a 274 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 765M and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RX 540X providing 4.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The RX 540X was released over three years more recently than the GeForce GTX 765M, and so the RX 540X is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce GTX 765M when running the latest games.
The RX 540X has 2048 MB more video memory than the GeForce GTX 765M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.
The GeForce GTX 765M has 64.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RX 540X, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 765M is much better than the RX 540X.
The Radeon RX 540X 4GB Mobile has 512 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 765M has 768. However, the actual shader performance of the RX 540X is 624 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 765M is 653. The GeForce GTX 765M having 29 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce GTX 765M delivers a slightly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 540X.
The RX 540X transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GTX 765M. This means that the RX 540X is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GTX 765M.
The Radeon RX 540X 4GB Mobile requires 50 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 765M requires 65 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the RX 540X. The GeForce GTX 765M requires 15 Watts more than the RX 540X to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce GTX 765M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the RX 540X.

Mini Review | Overview The new AMD Radeon RX 500X series are an OEM version of the current RX 500 series. The Radeon RX 540X 4GB Mobile is a Low to Middle-Class laptop Graphics Card based on the 4th Generation of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture. The specs of the Radeon RX 500X series graphics cards are identical to the standard Radeon RX 500 series. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed Lexa Pro which has 14 Compute Units activated and thus 512 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. Memory The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1500MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 50W, it requires at least a 350W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for Power, meaning no Extra Connectors are required. Performance This graphics card was designed and marketed towards the competitive MOBA gamers with laptops. A light weight, small form factor GPU solution that offers mobility. The Radeon RX 54X0 4GB Mobile can play most modern games at medium graphics selection on a 1080p screen res and expect around 45+FPS. Performance is exactly the same as the Radeon RX 540. System Suggestions Radeon RX 540 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Performance Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. | Overview GeForce GTX 760M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Kepler Architecture. Architecture The Kepler Architecture was NVIDIA's big step to power efficiency. Each Stream Multiprocessor (SMX) now hosts 192 Shader Processing Units - against the 48 of older Fermi Architecture, and has been redesigned being now clocked at the same speed of the Central Unit. This means they are more energy efficient and will consequently lead to cooler operating temperatures. However, it also means they are weaker. It can be said that one Fermi SMX is as fast as 2 Kepler SMXs. Additionally, and not available in all GPUs, Kepler also introduced the Boost Clock Feature. The Boost Clock is an even higher Clock Speed activated when in gaming mode and becomes the effective speed of the GPU. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed GK106-N14E-GE-B-A1 which has 4 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 768 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 850MHz. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 1002MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for SLI, Kepler Boost, Optimus, CUDA, OpenCL, DirectCompute, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 65W, it is suited for large laptops. Performance Despite being underclocked, when compared to GeForce GTX 650 Ti, GeForce GTX 765M ends up performing better in most cases as fast since the Kepler Boost 2.0 Technology allows an even higher Central Unit Speed, which most times exceeds the 950MHz. Gaming benchmarks indicate its performance is on average with the desktop GeForce GTX 650 Ti. System Suggestions We recommend a Powerful Processor (Intel Core i7 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GTX 765M. |
