In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7640G are very slightly better than the Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell).

The Radeon HD 7640G has a 196 MHz higher core clock speed and 12 more Texture Mapping Units than the Graphics Mobile. This results in the Radeon HD 7640G providing 6.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon HD 7640G has a 196 MHz higher core clock speed and 6 more Render Output Units than the Graphics Mobile. This results in the Radeon HD 7640G providing 3.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Graphics Mobile was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 7640G, and so the Graphics Mobile is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Radeon HD 7640G.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) and the Radeon HD 7640G have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The memory bandwidth of the HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) and the Radeon HD 7640G are the same, which means the Graphics Mobile and the Radeon HD 7640G have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) has 12 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7640G has 256. However, the actual shader performance of the Graphics Mobile is 10 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7640G is 127. The Radeon HD 7640G having 117 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD 7640G delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Graphics Mobile.

The Graphics Mobile transistor size technology is 10 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 7640G. This means that the Graphics Mobile is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 7640G. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the Graphics Mobile should consume less power than the Radeon HD 7640G.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) requires 4 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 7640G requires 35 Watts. The Radeon HD 7640G requires 31 Watts more than the Graphics Mobile to run. The difference is significant enough that the Radeon HD 7640G may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Graphics Mobile.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewIntel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) are integrated graphics in the budget Celeron and Pentium Broadwell Mobile processors.
Their performance depends on the processor they are integrated on, as the latter defines the Base and Boost Clock, as well as on the SYSTEM RAM, which defines the operating memory clock, and whether the GPU accesses a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface.
Best case scenario, the Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) performs on par with Intel HD 4000 Graphics and so most modern demanding games will not be playable. Less graphically intense games will be playable at lower graphics settings.
Radeon HD 7640G is an integrated GPU on the fast-middle-class Trinity CPUs.
It's based on the 32nm Terascale 3 architecture and offers 256 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The memory interface will depend on whether or not the laptop's system RAM is dual channelled (128-bit if so, 64-bit, if not) and the operating memory clock can be up to 800MHz (max speed supported by the CPU). The central unit runs at 496MHz and will go up to 685MHz in Turbo Mode. Expect a TDP of up to 35 Watt.
Its performance is slightly above Intel HD 4000 Graphics but below previous in series - Radeon HD 7620G, despite the naming, due to the lesser Shaders count which proves useful in most of today's modern games.
Some of today's modern games can be playable using the Medium preset though the low preset will have to suffice for most of them. Extremely demanding games (e.g. Crysis 3) are playable but with reduced frame rates.
