In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD M-5Y71 are marginally better than the Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell).

The Graphics Mobile and the HD M-5Y71 have both the same core clock speed and the same Texture Fill Rate. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Graphics Mobile and the HD M-5Y71 have the same core clock speed of 300 MHz, but the Graphics Mobile has 1 more Render Output Units than the HD M-5Y71. As a result, the Graphics Mobile exhibits a 0.3 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD M-5Y71. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Graphics Mobile was released less than a year after the HD M-5Y71, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) and the HD M-5Y71 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The memory bandwidth of the HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) and the HD M-5Y71 are the same, which means the Graphics Mobile and the HD M-5Y71 have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) has 12 Shader Processing Units and the HD M-5Y71 has 24. However, the actual shader performance of the Graphics Mobile is 10 and the actual shader performance of the HD M-5Y71 is 173. The HD M-5Y71 having 163 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD M-5Y71 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Graphics Mobile.

The HD M-5Y71 transistor size technology is 8 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Graphics Mobile. This means that the HD M-5Y71 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Graphics Mobile. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the HD M-5Y71 should consume less power than the Graphics Mobile.

The HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) requires 4 Watts to run and the HD M-5Y71 requires 5 Watts. The HD M-5Y71 requires 1 Watts more than the Graphics Mobile to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD M-5Y71 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Graphics Mobile.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewIntel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) are integrated graphics in the budget Celeron and Pentium Broadwell Mobile processors.
Their performance depends on the processor they are integrated on, as the latter defines the Base and Boost Clock, as well as on the SYSTEM RAM, which defines the operating memory clock, and whether the GPU accesses a 64-bit or 128-bit memory interface.
Best case scenario, the Intel HD Graphics Mobile (Broadwell) performs on par with Intel HD 4000 Graphics and so most modern demanding games will not be playable. Less graphically intense games will be playable at lower graphics settings.
Intel HD M-5Y71 is the specific version of Intel HD Graphics 5300 Mobile that is integrated in the Core M-5Y71 Processor.

The Broadwell Core includes support for DirectX 11.2, OpenCL 2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. Additionally, it also offers better Decoding Performance, when compared to its Predecessors.
The GPU Codenamed GT2 offers 24 Shader Processing Units, 4 TMUs and 1 ROP.

The Central Unit Initially Runs at 300MHz and goes up to 900MHz, in Turbo Mode.

The Operating Memory Clock depends at which speed the System's RAM is running and which Memory Type is installed and is ultimately limited by the highest operating speed that the Processor supports. In this case, it is 800MHz.
Depending on whether or not the System's RAM is Dual-Channeled, it can access either a 64-bit or 128-bit Memory Interface.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU Shares the System's RAM which varies according to the System. The GPU may reserve up to 2GB.

Because Performance depends heavily on the Memory Bandwidth, it may vary heavily from System to System.
Best Case Scenario, expect Performance Identical to a dedicated GeForce GT 420M.

System Suggestions
Intel HD M-5Y71 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We recommend 4GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
