In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI are massively better than the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire.

The RTX 2080 Ti transistor size technology is 28 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD. This means that the RTX 2080 Ti is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI requires 260 Watts to run and the Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire requires 100 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 650 Watts for the RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 2080 Ti requires 160 Watts more than the Radeon HD to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 2080 Ti may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Radeon HD.

Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed TU102 which has 4352 Shader Processing Units, 272 TMUs and 88 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1350MHz and goes up to 1545MHz in Boost mode. It also has 544 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. Memory The GPU accesses an 11GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 352-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 285W, it requires at least a 650W PSU with two 8-pin power connectors. Crossfire relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, is up to twice as better as a single Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire performing by itself but at times (depending whether or not the 3D game supports crossfire or in the graphics driver) it performed worse than a single Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire. This combination might consume up to 100 Watt though the average power consumption might be slightly lower.
Benchmarks indicate today's modern games can be played at high settings using a 720p+ resolution, assuming the game supports Crossfire, properly.
