Gaming Performance Comparison

Recommended System Requirements
Game GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB

In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB.

The GTX 1060 has a 219 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2080 Ti, but the RTX 2080 Ti has 200 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2080 Ti exhibits a 254.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1060 has a 219 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2080 Ti, but the RTX 2080 Ti has 40 more Render Output Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2080 Ti exhibits a 43.5 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2080 Ti was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1060, and so the RTX 2080 Ti is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1060.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 2080 Ti has 8192 MB more video memory than the GTX 1060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2080 Ti also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2080 Ti has 419 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1060, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2080 Ti is massively better than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI has 4352 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB has 1152. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2080 Ti is 7116 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 1060 is 2055. The RTX 2080 Ti having 5061 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2080 Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 1060.

The RTX 2080 Ti transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1060. This means that the RTX 2080 Ti is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI requires 260 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 650 Watts for the RTX 2080 Ti and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 1060. The RTX 2080 Ti requires 140 Watts more than the GTX 1060 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 2080 Ti may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 1060.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the top RTX 20 Series graphics card and considered an Enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing architecture. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed TU102 which has 4352 Shader Processing Units, 272 TMUs and 88 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1350MHz and goes up to 1545MHz in Boost mode. It also has 544 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. Memory The GPU accesses an 11GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 352-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 285W, it requires at least a 650W PSU with two 8-pin power connectors. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a top-End Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.Overview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is an Overclocked variant of the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB which is currently the entry level Nvidia GTX 1000 performance graphics card, based on the Pascal Architecture. It comes with locked memory of 3GB instead of the full 6GB.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-300-A1 which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 9 SM activated, offering 1152 Shader Processing Units (the GTX 1060 6GB version offers 1280 SPU), 72 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1569MHz and goes up to 1784MHz, when Boost mode is activated.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2052MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 8-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 3GB is a high performance graphics card that will run 2016's AAA games producing 60+ frames per second on most games at very high settings and a 1080p screen resolution. At 1440p this card can maintain the 60+ fps with a slight graphical adjustment down to high/medium settings. The 3GB memory reduction will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof as more GPU memory hungry games are released.
