In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 4GB GDDR6 are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor OCV1 3G.

The GTX 1060 has a 179 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2060, but the RTX 2060 has 48 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2060 exhibits a 52.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1060 has a 179 MHz higher core clock speed and 1 more Render Output Units than the RTX 2060. This results in the GTX 1060 providing 9.9 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2060 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1060, and so the RTX 2060 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1060.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 2060 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 1060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2060 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2060 having 1200 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2060 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 1060.

The RTX 2060 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1060. This means that the RTX 2060 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce RTX 2060 4GB GDDR6 requires 150 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1060 MSI Armor OCV1 3G requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the RTX 2060 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 1060. The RTX 2060 requires 30 Watts more than the GTX 1060 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the RTX 2060 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GTX 1060.

Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 does support real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1365 MHz and goes up to 1680 MHz, in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory running through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 14GHz effective. Performance

The 3GB version is normally around 5% worse than the GTX 1060 6GB full fat version in terms of sheer processing power. But its the 3GB memory reduction that will hamper the high quality game textures this card can deliver, making it less future proof, as more games are released that require GPU memory.

We expect this GPU to return around 51+ FPS at high graphics setting on most modern games @ 1080p screen resolution.
