In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gainward Founders Edition 11GB (China) are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.

The GTX 1080 Ti has a 595 MHz higher core clock speed and 40 more Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. This results in the GTX 1080 Ti providing 168.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1080 Ti has a 595 MHz higher core clock speed and 24 more Render Output Units than the RTX 2070. This results in the GTX 1080 Ti providing 73.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2070 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1080 Ti, and so the RTX 2070 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1080 Ti.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1080 Ti has 3072 MB more video memory than the RTX 2070, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1080 Ti also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 1080 Ti has 100.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 2070, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 1080 Ti is massively better than the RTX 2070.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gainward Founders Edition 11GB (China) has 3584. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 2730 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 1080 Ti is 7654. The GTX 1080 Ti having 4924 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 1080 Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RTX 2070.

The RTX 2070 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1080 Ti. This means that the RTX 2070 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1080 Ti.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gainward Founders Edition 11GB (China) requires 220 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 1080 Ti, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The GTX 1080 Ti requires 140 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 1080 Ti may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is a High-End laptop Graphics Card based on the Turing Architecture. As a Max-Q graphics card it is ideally suited for thin gaming laptops. However, this does impact performance. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU106B N18E-G2-A1 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 2304 Shader Processing Units, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU Name: TU106B N18E-G2-A1 GPU The central unit runs at 885MHz and goes up to 1185MHz in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1500MHz, or 12GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 384 Gb/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80W, the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q offers good power efficiency for a high-end laptop graphics processor. Performance Performance of the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q falls a fair way short of the desktop GeForce RTX 2070. However, the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is still a decently fast mobile graphics card which offers performance on par with previous-gen desktop GeForce GTX 1070. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560 x 1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.Overview The Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Founders Edition (China) is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture. It is identical to the Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Founders Edition except created for the Chinese market. Architecture It equips a GPU Codenamed P102, which is a first gen Pascal GPU and has 28 SM units activated, offering 3584 shader processing units, 224 TMUs and 88 ROPs. GPU The central unit runs at 1480MHz and goes up to 1582MHz in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses an 11GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5X memory, through 352-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1376MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 220W, it requires at least a 550W PSU with available 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors. Performance The Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition (China) performance is capable of 2017 AAA gaming at high graphics settings across all games. This GPU will deliver strong frame rates at 4K on any game at high graphics levels. System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160 (4K). We recommend a High-End Processor and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
