In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.

The GTX 1070 Ti has a 722 MHz higher core clock speed but 32 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 1070 Ti manages to provide 81.5 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1070 Ti has a 722 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 1070 Ti providing 46.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2070 was released less than a year after the GTX 1070 Ti, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The RTX 2070 has 127.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1070 Ti, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2070 is massively better than the GTX 1070 Ti.

Both the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti have 2304 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 1070 Ti is 5235 and by the RTX 2070 is 5235. Knowing that the shader performance of the GTX 1070 Ti is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The RTX 2070 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1070 Ti. This means that the RTX 2070 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1070 Ti.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti requires 180 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 1070 Ti, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The GTX 1070 Ti requires 100 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 1070 Ti may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q is a High-End laptop Graphics Card based on the Turing Architecture. As a Max-Q graphics card it is ideally suited for thin gaming laptops. However, this does impact performance. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU106B N18E-G2-A1 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 2304 Shader Processing Units, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU Name: TU106B N18E-G2-A1 GPU The central unit runs at 885MHz and goes up to 1185MHz in Turbo Mode.
