In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce 940MX 2GB.

The GTX 1660 Ti has a 18 MHz higher core clock speed and 72 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. This results in the GTX 1660 Ti providing 82.5 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1660 Ti has a 18 MHz higher core clock speed and 40 more Render Output Units than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. This results in the GTX 1660 Ti providing 45.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 1660 Ti was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 940MX 2GB, and so the GTX 1660 Ti is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 940MX 2GB when running the latest games.

The GTX 1660 Ti has 4096 MB more video memory than the GeForce 940MX 2GB, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1660 Ti also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 1660 Ti has 272 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 940MX 2GB, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 1660 Ti is massively better than the GeForce 940MX 2GB.

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q has 1536 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 940MX 2GB has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1660 Ti is 2051 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 940MX 2GB is 644. The GTX 1660 Ti having 1407 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 1660 Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce 940MX 2GB.

The GTX 1660 Ti transistor size technology is 16 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce 940MX 2GB. This means that the GTX 1660 Ti is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce 940MX 2GB.

The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q requires 60 Watts to run and the GeForce 940MX 2GB requires 25 Watts. The GTX 1660 Ti requires 35 Watts more than the GeForce 940MX 2GB to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 1660 Ti may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce 940MX 2GB.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile is a mid-range GeForce 16 Series graphics card for laptops based on the Turing GPU architecture. It is smaller and doesn't drain the battery as fast compared to the mobile version, but it is weaker in performance. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. Unlike the RTX series, the GTX series does not support real-time ray-tracing. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU116, which has 1536 Shader Processing Units, 96 TMUs, 48 ROPs and 24 SMs. The central unit runs at 1455 MHz and goes up to 1590 MHz in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 12GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80W the GTX 1660 Ti Mobile is averagely resource-intensive and will fairly significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.Overview
GeForce 940MX 2GB is a Middle-Class Mobile Graphics Card based on the Maxwell Architecture.

Architecture
GeForce 940MX 2GB Features a GPU Codenamed GM108-N16S-GTR which is a First Gen Maxwell GPU and is identical to the GM108-N16S-GT-S used on GeForce 940M but with the addition of GDDR5 Support.
GM108-N16S-GTR has 3 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs.

GPU
The Central Unit is Clocked at 1122Hz and goes up to 1242MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with DDR3 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 64-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1001MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 2GB.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 25W, it is suited for small and medium sized laptops.

Performance
Equipped with DDR3, GeForce GT 940MX is only slightly faster than GeForce GT 940M.

System Suggestions
GeForce 940MX 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1366x768. We Recommend a Middle-Class Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
