In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 4290 are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce 6600 LE.

The Radeon HD 4290 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 6600 LE, and so the Radeon HD 4290 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 6600 LE when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 6600 LE has 128 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 4290, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce 6600 LE also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce 6600 LE has 3.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 4290, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 6600 LE is marginally better than the Radeon HD 4290.

The Radeon HD 4290 has 40 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 6600 LE has 7. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 4290 is 18 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 6600 LE is 2. The Radeon HD 4290 having 16 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD 4290 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce 6600 LE.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 4290 (IGP) is an integrated GPU on the AMD 890GX Chipset.
It's based on the RS880D Core and offers 40 Shader Processing Units, 4 TMUs and 4 ROPs a 32-bit memory interface of either DDR2 (more commonly) or DDR3. The central unit runs, commonly, at up to 700MHz and the memory clock's operating speed depends on the system RAM's speed.
Radeon HD 4290's performance depends on the users system configuration which will define the operating memory clock's speed and on the desktop manufacturer which decides its central unit's speed.
Therefore, Radeon HD 4290, even if paired with DDR3 won't offer similar performance to the dedicated Radeon HD 4350. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
Supercharge your gaming with the power of an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GPU. The NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GPUs deliver best-in-class performance and advanced visual effects for next-generation games. The only GPU in its class with support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 and with support for PCI Express, the GeForce 6600 delivers ultra-realistic effects, unmatched features, and rock-solid stability so you can play your game the way itís meant to be played.
