Radeon HD 8870M Game Requirement Analysis
Overview
Radeon HD 8870M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture.
Architecture
The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology.
GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Venus XT which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 725MHz and goes up to 775MHz, in Turbo Mode.
Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The memory clock operates at 1125MHz.
Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.
Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 50W, it is suited for 17" or larger laptops.
Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance on average with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 670M.
System Suggestions
We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8870M.
