Radeon HD 8970M Game Requirement Analysis
Overview
Radeon HD 8970M is a High-End Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture.
Architecture
The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology.
GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Neptune XT which has 20 Compute Units activated and thus offers 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 850MHz and goes up to 900MHz, in Turbo Mode.
Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The memory clock operates at 1200MHz.
Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.
Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 100W, it is suited for very large laptops.
Performance
Radeon HD 8970M is essentially a fast Radeon HD 7970M.
Gaming benchmarks put its performance slightly above NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 680M.
System Suggestions
We recommend a Powerful Processor (Intel Core i7 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8970M.
