How well can the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire run games
AMD Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire graphics card is considered budget with poor modern game performance when playing anything more demanding than indie game requirements.

Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire is capable of DirectX 11 gaming requirements.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2022. In particular we focus on how well the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 379 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

Looking at some of the modern popular games people are playing today the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire is predicted to run Grand Theft Auto VI with weak performances on 1080p Ultra, getting 16 frames per second. Comparing this to FIFA 22 which is getting strong results, where it averages 88 FPS. Another popular game we looked at is Forza Horizon 5, which is running at 40 frames per second.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have researched Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will be weak. The frame rates predicted for the game presets were - Low: 32 FPS, Medium: 25 FPS, High: 17 FPS and Ultra: 12 FPS. We added FIFA 22 to our tests and saw it was good with a 67 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then tested Forza Horizon 5 which got 30 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p gaming on the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire.

Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire Game Requirement Analysis

Radeon HD 7970 Crossfire is a solution of two Radeon HD 7970 put together using AMD'S Crossfire technology.
Check the page of Radeon HD 7970 to know more about its chip.
Crossfire relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, is up to 64% better than a single Radeon HD 7970 performing by itself but at times (depending whether or not the 3D game supports crossfire or in the graphics driver) it performed worse than a single Radeon HD 7970. Expect this combination to draw up to 600 Watt though the average power consumption should be slightly lower.
Even the most demanding games will run at the highest settings.
