How well can the GeForce GTX 480 SLI run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 480 SLI GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. DirectX 11 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2019. In particular we focus on how well the GeForce GTX 480 SLI runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 347 games in todays list.

Running at 1080p this card gets a playable frame rate from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with 26 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Planet Zoo which returns a weak 10 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Cyberpunk 2077 which we predict will get a weak 10 FPS.

With PC gamers looking for larger screen sizes like 1440p we tested the GeForce GTX 480 SLI by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which yielded a weak performance. Its FPS results for the graphics settings are as follows - L: 51FPS, M: 40FPS, H: 27FPS, U: 19FPS. Another popular game we tested with this card was Planet Zoo and that was weak. This graphics card delivered 7 FPS at Ultra 1440p. Another popular title was Cyberpunk 2077 which is predicted to get weak results with a 7FPS on Ultra 1440p. 1440p GeForce GTX 480 SLI PC gaming is not going to be able to maintain a playable game at this resolution.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 480 SLI graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 480 SLI in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 480 SLI? A good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 77% better and can meet 899 of their recommended requirements. Alternatively a good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 480 SLI would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB which meets 683 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 30% better performance.

GeForce GTX 480 SLI Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 480 SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 480 put together using NVIDIA'S SLI technology.
SLI relies a lot on proper driver support and may cause micro stuttering in FPS below 30. This means this combination might even perform worse than a single GTX 480.
The optimal performance it delivers is largely better than a single GeForce GTX 480 and relatively close to GeForce GTX 590.
Therefore, this combination is sufficient for gaming at 1080p and most demanding games can be played at the highest settings.
