How well can the GeForce GTX 480 SLI run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 SLI
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 480 SLI is a very low performing piece of gaming hardware and can probably only run indie system requirements.

DirectX 11 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 480 SLI get on latest AAA 2022 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 255 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 480 SLI performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Resident Evil 8 and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 25 FPS, Medium: 20 FPS, High: 13 FPS and Ultra: 10 FPS. We proceeded to look at Battlefield 2042 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a weak 0 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Resident Evil 8 to see how the GeForce GTX 480 SLI dealt with it. It scored up a weak series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 19 FPS, Medium: 15 FPS, High: 10 FPS and Ultra: 7 FPS. Next we looked at Battlefield 2042 which was weak with a 0 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Dying Light 2 that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 2. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 480 SLI, this is going to struggle at this higher gaming resolution.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 480 SLI graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 480 SLI in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 480 SLI? A great upgrade graphics card would be a RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB, which has 43% better performance and can run 726 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today. Alternatively if you want an upgrade suggestion for the GeForce GTX 480 SLI then a good choice would be R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB as this is better than 960 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 102% better performance as well.

GeForce GTX 480 SLI Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 480 SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 480 put together using NVIDIA'S SLI technology.
SLI relies a lot on proper driver support and may cause micro stuttering in FPS below 30. This means this combination might even perform worse than a single GTX 480.
The optimal performance it delivers is largely better than a single GeForce GTX 480 and relatively close to GeForce GTX 590.
Therefore, this combination is sufficient for gaming at 1080p and most demanding games can be played at the highest settings.
