How well can the GeForce GTX 780 SLI run games
26 Jan 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The GeForce GTX 780 SLI will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the GeForce GTX 780 SLI can also run 1440p pc system requirements. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

This PC hardware performance game review for the GeForce GTX 780 SLI graphics card, when running 2020 more popular games, lets us see what type of FPS this card gets when playing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions and ultra settings. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 865 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 780 SLI performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and saw it deliver reasonable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 147 FPS, Medium: 115 FPS, High: 78 FPS and Ultra: 56 FPS. We proceeded to look at Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order to see how that compared and saw that it returned a reasonable 45 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which delivered playable FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 112 FPS, Medium: 88 FPS, High: 59 FPS and Ultra: 42 FPS. Next we have Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order running on GeForce GTX 780 SLI which gets L: 91FPS, M: 71FPS, H: 48FPS, U: 34FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Grand Theft Auto VI is predicted to get L: 60FPS, M: 48FPS, H: 32FPS, U: 23FPS at 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce GTX 780 SLI running at 1440p is a perfectly suitable selection of hardware for theis larger screen size. If a game at 1440p struggles a bit or experiences a frame drop then you can tweak settings in game to help get it stable. This might mean lowering it to medium or low in some specific options.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 780 SLI graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 780 SLI in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 780 SLI? A good choice when looking to upgrade the GeForce GTX 780 SLI would be the 20 Series GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB which meets 991 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 31% better performance. Alternatively a suitable upgrade choice for the GeForce GTX 780 SLI is the R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB, which is 22% more powerful and can run 981 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

GeForce GTX 780 SLI Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 780 SLI is a combination of 2 GeForce GTX 780 put together using NVIDIA's SLI technology.
Together, this combination offers 4608 Shader Processing Units, 384 TMUs and 96 ROPs. This, on a 384-bit memory interface, per card, of fast GDDR5. While the central unit runs at 863MHz and goes up to 902MHz, in Turbo Mode, the memory clock operates at 1502MHz.
Best case scenario, this combination surpasses considerably a single GeForce GTX 690 but ultimately, its performance depends on the driver support and on the 3D application.
Therefore, and paired with a powerful processor, all demanding games are playable at the highest settings. Still, this combination might surpass the 500W barrier of TDP and so it will require a powerful PSU.

since you have a i7 3820, you have a x79 motherboard, and most if not all x79 motherboards support SLI, and adding another graphics card to your setup will offer a bit less than double the performance you currently have, but this does depend on the game, Nvidia are known for great driver support, but some games have great scaling, some don't, so I would check out the scaling in the games you want to play, games like battlefield have great scaling, whilst in f1 2010, SLI actually reduces

performance a little bit, and GTA IV just doesn't support SLI at all, you will have to disable SLI (it's in the Nvidia control panel) when you play GTA IV.
