How well can the Radeon R9 295X2 run games
AMD Radeon R9 295X2
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the Radeon R9 295X2 is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the Radeon R9 295X2. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2023. In terms of performance against the most demanding games today this graphics card can play 791 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the Radeon R9 295X2 performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 102 FPS, Medium: 80 FPS, High: 54 FPS and Ultra: 39 FPS. We proceeded to look at FIFA 22 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a strong 120 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the Radeon R9 295X2 performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 78 FPS, Medium: 61 FPS, High: 41 FPS and Ultra: 29 FPS. We then checked the performance on FIFA 22 to see if that runs well. It was strong with a 92 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p gaming on the Radeon R9 295X2 is a very strong choice of graphics cards at higher resolution gaming. 4K gaming with this graphics card is certainly something that can be achieved across a number of the latest games and still achieve good graphics settings at those resolutions. Ultra 1440p is also a regular occurrence with this gpu.

How many years will the Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon R9 295X2 in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon R9 295X2? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon R9 295X2.

Radeon R9 295X2 Game Requirement Analysis

Radeon R9 295X2 is a Dual-Graphics Solution based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support.

It equips two GPUs Codenamed Hawaii XT which together have 128 Compute Units activated and thus offer 5632 Shader Processing Units, 352 TMUs and 128 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1018MHz.

Each GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 Memory, through a 512-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1250MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 500W, it requires at least a 850W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Radeon R9 295X2 Competes with GeForce GTX Titan Z and proves to be much faster than the latter, especially at 4K.
Radeon R9 295X2 is the fastest Dual Graphics Solution as of June of 2015.

System Suggestions
Radeon R9 295X2 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a Very Strong Processor (Intel Core i7 Quad Core/AMD FX Eight Core) and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
