How well can the GeForce GTX 260M run games
10 Feb 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

The GeForce GTX 260M is a very low performing piece of gaming hardware and can probably only run indie system requirements. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 10 requirement.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 260M graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 260M in your PC? You should definitely consider replacing this GeForce GTX 260M graphics card, if it is still in your gaming PC.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 260M? A good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the 20 Series GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 1263% better and can meet 854 of their recommended requirements. Alternatively upgrading this graphics card would have us consider the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500M 8GB which is 974% more powerful. This upgrade choice can also run 518 games from the most demanding games today.

GeForce GTX 260M Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 260M is a high-end-class level GPU of the 200M Series released by NVIDIA in 2009/2010.
The biggest hindrance it has is the fact that it only supports DirectX up to 10 so DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
It's based on the architecture 'G92b', same used on the middle-class GeForce GTS 250 part of the desktop 200 Series. The performance should be much lower than the desktop GTS 250, due to the lower clock frequencies and less amount of Pipelines but higher than the GeForce GTS 260M as it features extra Pipelines and a 256 bits Memory Bus, as well as higher clock frequencies.
Compared to powerful Mobile GPUS (e.g. GTX 485M, Radeon HD 6990M), GeForce GTX 260M is not far behind and it's capable of playing demanding games (like Crysis 2) at high settings. However, very demanding games like Metro 2033 can only be played at low or medium settings, depending on the resolution + DirectX used.

What are you talking about? The GTS 250 is a rebadged 9800 GTX.

This is a notebook graphics chip with lower core clock, lower shader clock and lower memory bandwith.

edit: Damn you are right… they do use the same chip but it still is clocked lower.

Why is this card rated lower than a desktop GeForce 9800 GTX? They are the same card.
