How well can the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here is a performance review on how capable the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire is at running the more popular games of 2019. Specifically looking at this PC hardware’s ability to get suitable frames per second to play on Ultra game settings and what FPS it might get on 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen res. We look at 1000 of the most demanding games available today and this GPU is better than the recommended graphics requirement of more than 424 games in the list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire can run Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080p and saw it return playable frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 111 FPS, Medium: 87 FPS, High: 59 FPS and Ultra: 42 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare returns a playable 42 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Red Dead Redemption 2 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 85 FPS, Medium: 67 FPS, High: 45 FPS and Ultra: 32 FPS. We then checked the performance on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to see if that runs well. It was playable with a 32 FPS at Ultra 1440p. 1440p Radeon R9 270 Crossfire PC gaming is certainly a viable option for these higher gaming resolutions. Remember that if you suffer some 1440p FPS drops the you can usually tweak modern game graphics settings until you get a near High graphics setting experience with this Graphics card.

How many years will the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire? A good choice when looking to upgrade the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB which meets 895 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 53% better performance. Alternatively a suitable upgrade choice for the Radeon R9 270 Crossfire is the R-500 Series Radeon RX 580 8GB, which is 25% more powerful and can run 848 of the 1000 most demanding PC games beating their recommended requirements.

I have always wanted to crossfire so I might do it with this card, it only needs one 6 pin connection for each card. Might have to upgrade to FX 8350 first.
