Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition graphics card is considered budget with poor modern game performance when playing anything more demanding than indie game requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

We take a look at game performance achieved on this graphics card when running 2023 popular games. This short GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition game hardware review looks at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 363 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

Now onto the frame rates achieved at 1080p. We are seeing Forza Horizon 5 getting 26 FPS with the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition, Back 4 Blood getting 50 FPS and Resident Evil 8 getting 26 frames per second. All run on Ultra at 1920x1080 screen res.

We move on to 1440p, and tested Forza Horizon 5 which delivered weak FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 51 FPS, Medium: 40 FPS, High: 27 FPS and Ultra: 19 FPS. Next we have Back 4 Blood running on GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition which gets L: 100FPS, M: 79FPS, H: 53FPS, U: 38FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Resident Evil 8 gets L: 51FPS, M: 40FPS, H: 27FPS, U: 19FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition is certainly a viable option for these higher gaming resolutions. Remember that if you suffer some 1440p FPS drops the you can usually tweak modern game graphics settings until you get a near High graphics setting experience with this Graphics card.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition.

GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's High-End GeForce GTX 780 6GB, created by MSI.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 954MHz, instead of 863MHz and goes up to 1006MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock and the Frame Buffer remain the same.

Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by MSI's Twin Frozr cooler which uses a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition..

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 780 6GB.
