Yeah, the 980M SLi is a really great card. Was actually planning on upgrading to it but the gap between my GPU and yours is too small. Even the highest score that the 980M SLi achieves in 3dmark firestrike is only marginally better by 42fps

Don't compare 'highest' scores - those are VERY unstable overclocks that only last minutes before crashing. Gaming does not work on those clocks and therefore they're useless.
On average with 'gaming-grade' overclocks you can get double the performance of 780Ms, which is what I got. You'd still get -50% or so better framerates if you upgraded and you'd also benefit from faster hardware tessellation.

The 880M SLi is roughly on the same level as a GTX 980 while yours is on the same level as a 980 Ti. If you were wondering: http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/7149225/fs/2402025.

With my cards I score better in Firestrike than an average overclocked 980Ti/Titan X so I am fully aware of the fact (check my Firestrike vs GreedyMuffin's, he made me aware of this) :P
As for 880Ms… I hope you're not throttling because those cards throttle like crazy from what I've heard. I even had to flash a custom VBIOS to stop my 980Ms from doing that…
After that - double performance vs my OC'd 780M SLI

Fortunately, they don't throttle as I would have already upgraded by now if they did. Stock for stock, there is a 20fps increase when comparing your 980M sli to my 880M sli in practically every game. I get 66fps in unigine heavenstockthough

You're one of the few lucky owners of 880M if your GPUs aren't frying, throttling and are stable. I've read waay too much about them to warrant and upgrade to 880Ms when they came out :)

Yes, I do. Money's not a worry. But now I'm contemplating a desktop. Figured if I get all the parts myself, for 2200GBP I can get 2xGTX980 (SLI), 32GB DDR4, i7 5930K Extreme, 750W PSU and a fancy box…
Probably a better choice than upgrading the laptop..

Good if you can get it all for that little, I mean just the CPU and RAM will come to about £900, give or take.

oh, yeah it's not too bad. The mobo I chose was an Asus Extreme one, although I think I might invest in an Asus X99 Deluxe instead, which will raise the price
