Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games.

This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2021. In particular we focus on how well the GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 632 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition can run Back 4 Blood at 1080p and predict it will return reasonable frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 148 FPS, Medium: 116 FPS, High: 78 FPS and Ultra: 56 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Resident Evil 8 returns a playable 35 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition at 1440p and researched how Back 4 Blood might perform on it leading us to predict a playable set of FPS results. These were, Low: 113 FPS, Medium: 89 FPS, High: 60 FPS and Ultra: 43 FPS. We then checked out Resident Evil 8 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 69FPS, M: 55FPS, H: 37FPS, U: 26FPS. And another popular game was Star Citizen with predictions of L: 107FPS, M: 84FPS, H: 57FPS, U: 40FPS at 1440p. 1440p GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition PC gaming is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 980 Asus 4GB Edition in your PC? No graphics card upgrade required for around 2 years
