How well can the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition run games
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

A mid to low level graphics card, the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition is found in budget machines nowadays, struggling to meet AAA system requirements.

DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition get on latest AAA 2022 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 439.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Resident Evil 8 and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 79 FPS, Medium: 62 FPS, High: 42 FPS and Ultra: 30 FPS. We proceeded to look at Forza Horizon 5 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a playable 30 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition at 1440p with Resident Evil 8, which got a weak set of FPS results. These were, Low: 60 FPS, Medium: 48 FPS, High: 32 FPS and Ultra: 23 FPS. We then checked out Forza Horizon 5 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 60FPS, M: 48FPS, H: 32FPS, U: 23FPS. And another popular game was Back 4 Blood that returned L: 106FPS, M: 83FPS, H: 56FPS, U: 40FPS at 1440p. Getting popular modern games to run at 1440p on the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the GeForce GTX 970 Galax OC 4GB Edition.

The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by Galax's Double Fan Cooling Solution. This means the card runs cooler under load.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 5% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 970 4GB.
