12 Jan 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. All games with system requirements of DirectX 12 or lower are met by this card.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition get on latest AAA 2020 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 189 games in todays list.

With 1080p being the most common gaming resolution at the moment we explored how well the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition can run Halo: Reach at 1080p and saw it return strong frame rates at the following graphics settings - Low: 235 FPS, Medium: 185 FPS, High: 125 FPS and Ultra: 89 FPS. For performance contrast we can see that Need For Speed Heat returns a weak 19 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

One of the growing popular screen resolutions for PC gaming is the wider 1440p. So we wanted to see how well the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition performed at 1440p by taking a look at some of the current popular games. First we looked at Halo: Reach and saw it deliver good frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 179 FPS, Medium: 141 FPS, High: 95 FPS and Ultra: 68 FPS. We then checked the performance on Need For Speed Heat to see if that runs well. It was weak with a 14 FPS at Ultra 1440p. In summary we feel the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition running at 1440p is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition in your PC?
